The Biloxi Business Men's Club on Thursday adopted a resolution recognizing the diversity of the community and calling on state legislators to repeal HB 1523.
The new law broadly allows for discrimination based on sexual orientation, the resolution says, and if upheld, "would sanction overt acts of discrimination against Mississippi citizens and visitors based on undefined -- and therefore any and all -- claims of religious or moral conviction."
Biloxi, its businesses and residents have long provided goods and services to all, regardless of race, creed, religious affiliation or sexual orientation, the resolution says.
The organization commended Mayor Andrew "FoFo" Gilich for his stand against the law and said residents and visitors need to be made aware Biloxi businesses do not discriminate.
