Ship christening set for Saturday

Ingalls Shipbuilding will christen the company's 30th Aegis guided missile destroyer, the Ralph Johnson (DDG 114), on Saturday.

Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition Sean Stackley will be keynote speaker and Georgeann McRaven, wife of Adm. Bill McRaven (U.S. Navy, Retired), is the ship's sponsor.

DDG 114 is named to honor Pfc. Ralph Henry Johnson, who received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions that saved others during the Vietnam War. The Charleston, S.C., native had been in Vietnam for only two months when he was killed at 19.

His sister, Helen Richards, is expected to attend the ceremony.
