Nine appointed to Jackson County Port Authority Board

Nine appointees to the Jackson County Port Authority Board of Commissioners were sworn in recently by Judge Robert Krebs.

Those selected by the Jackson County Supervisors to serve for the 2016-2020 term are Charles Persons, District 1, selected by Supervisor Barry Cumbest; Marisa Jackson, District 2, by Supervisor Melton Harris; Marshall Smith, District 3, by Supervisor Ken Taylor; Drew Allen, District 4, by Supervisor Troy Ross; and Greg Williams, District 5, by Supervisor Randy Bosarge.

James Colmer, Wallace Easley, William Lassitter and Pam Lindsey were appointed by Gov. Phil Bryant.

The board is responsible for setting policy for the operations under the jurisdiction of the Port Authority, including the Port of Pascagoula public cargo facilities, the Jackson County Industrial Water System, the county's industrial parks and Singing River Island. The Port Authority also serves as the local sponsor for the federal navigation project.

Commissioners serve four years, concurrent with the elected official's term of office.
