Cost of Kemper power plant up $7.3 million in January

Mississippi Power reported Monday that the cost of the Kemper County coal gasification facility rose another $7.3 million in January.

In the monthly report to the Public Service Commission, Mississippi Power said the total project cost now stands at $6.644 billion, compared to $6.637 billion at the end of December.

The report did not change the expected date when the lignite portion of the facility is expected to be operational. That remains the third quarter of this year.
