Deaconess HomeCare in Gulfport has earned a Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission, a nonprofit that accredits U.S. healthcare organizations.
To receive accreditation, Deaconess HomeCare underwent an unannounced on-site survey. A team of Joint Commission surveyors evaluated the agency for compliance with home care standards specific to the needs of patients, including the provision of care, treatment and services, emergency management, human resources, individual rights and responsibilities and leadership.
Deaconess HomeCare is part of LHC Group Inc., a national provider of post-acute care services with over 10,000 employees operating more than 350 locations in 25 states. LHC Group is the only national home health provider pursuing 100 percent Joint Commission accreditation, and over 95 percent of the company's home health agencies have achieved accreditation.
The Joint Commission Executive Director Margherita Labson said as home care becomes increasing popular, it's important that providers demonstrate they are capable of providing safe, high-quality care. The gold seal shows the company has demonstrated compliance to these recognized standards of safe and quality care, she said.
