Wal-Mart accepting grant requests from Mississippi nonprofits

Mississippi nonprofits with programs focusing on hunger relief, healthy eating or career opportunities can apply for funding through Walmart Foundation's State Giving Program.

This year's program will provide grants ranging from $25,000 to $200,000. Applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status to meet the program's minimum funding criteria.

In 2014, the Walmart Foundation's State Giving Program awarded grants to Mississippi organizations totaling more than $14 million. As a State Giving Program grant recipient in 2014, Hancock County Food Pantry was awarded a $30,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation to assist with feeding 600 families per month by providing food and personal hygiene products to those in need.

Launched in 2008, associate-led State Advisory Councils work with the Walmart Foundation to help identify needs within their state, review grant requests and make funding recommendations to the foundation.
