The Ocean Springs Police Department announced awards and commendations to police officers and civilian personnel for their outstanding service in 2015: Nicole Shavers was named officer of the year; Heather Lambert-Darby, deputy court clerk and IT assistant, was named civilian employee of the year; Lionel Cothern Jr. and Matthew Jalanivich were acknowledged for the most DUI arrests; Jalanivich was also acknowledged for the most drug-violation arrests; Andrew England was acknowledged for the most felony arrests; Shavers, England, Adam Carter, Jonathan Carroll, Anna Lach and Mandy Lizana were honored for outstanding community service during the department's 2015 toy drive.

Michael Cook has joined Community Bank in Gulfport as the vice president of commercial lending. Cook brings more than 25 years of experience in lending, credit administration and management to the position.

Jason Saucier joined Brown, Mitchell & Alexander, a consulting engineering firm with offices in Gulfport and Biloxi, as an environmental scientist. Saucier brings more than 10 years of experience in environmental services to the position.

J.P. Nicolais of Long Beach became a member of the Gottesman Co.'s national network of M&A Business Brokers. Nicolais is a graduate of George Washington University Law Center.

Sam Alsgood Jr. of Pascagoula was named to a three-year term on the American Red Cross of Mississippi's Regional Leadership Council.
