South Mississippi sales-tax collections continue year-long rise
South Mississippi held onto its streak of sales-tax increases for 2015, despite decreases in payments in five cities for November.
Mississippi Department of Revenue's November report for October sales shows an increase of $73,000 across the Coast compared with a year ago. In October, the increase was $207,000 compared with 2014.
The biggest year-over-year gains were $72,000 in Gulfport and $42,000 in D'Iberville. Ocean Springs had the biggest drop at $28,000 and Pascagoula was down $25,000.
Since January, the 12 cities in South Mississippi collectively have received larger sales-tax diversions each month than in 2014.
For the state fiscal year that began July 1, Long Beach and Pascagoula are the only cities whose collections are down from the previous year.
