Gulfport Care Center's addition approved
The Mississippi State Department of Health approved a Certificate of Need for Harrison County Properties's Gulfport Care Center.
The applicant asked for approval of a cost overrun for 90 nursing home beds at the center. The cost overrun was due to a construction delay that increased costs and the purchase of upgraded and additional equipment.
The approved capital expenditure for this project was $7,178,929. The additional capital expenditure is $715,516, making the revised total for this project $7,894,445.
The MSD has administered the Certificate of Need program since 1986. Since then, more than 1,400 Certificate of Need applications have been reviewed, representing total capital expenditures of $5 billion. The process is designed to increase accessibility, acceptability, continuity and quality of health services; to prevent unnecessary duplication of health resources, and to provide some cost containment.
