Just in time for holiday shopping, Winn-Dixie announced it is permanently reducing the prices of more than 1,500 of its customers' favorite grocery items.
Southeastern Grocers, parent company of Winn-Dixie, announced its New Regular Price Program Wednesday on items that more than 70 percent of Winn-Dixie customers purchased within the last six months.
The company said it is making a $40 million investment to offer lower prices after a survey said affordable prices was shoppers' top requirement from a grocery store.
Special price tags will make it easy to identify the savings now featured throughout the store on produce, dairy, bakery, meat, dry, frozen and home goods.
The new prices are available at all 518 Winn-Dixie stores and shoppers don't need a Winn-Dixie card to get the savings.
For instance, a 4-pound bag of Domino sugar, which shoppers will need for pumpkin pies and Christmas cookies, now sells for $2.50, a 25 percent savings from the previous price of $3.35.
"Research consistently tells us that customers are seeking lower prices, wherever they shop, particularly hardworking families shopping on a budget," said Ian McLeod, President and CEO of Southeastern Grocers. "We are listening to our customers and helping them reduce the cost of their weekly shop by lowering the prices on over 1,500 of our customers' favorites."
The new program reduces prices on these select items by an average of 19 percent and some up to 53 percent. These products will still be placed on sale occasionally to further reduce the price.
