Mississippi Wal-Marts hiring nearly 1,000 workers for the holidays
Wal-Mart said Tuesday it will hire about 1,000 seasonal employees at its 82 stores in Mississippi for the holiday season.
The company said that starting salaries of at least $9 an hour are at least $1,75 an hour above the state and federal minimum wage.
Seasonal employees will be hired as sales associates, cashiers and stockers and Wal-Mart said many will continue as full-time employees.
"Last year more than half of Wal-Mart's seasonal employees nationwide continued with the retailer as permanent employees," the company said in a press release.
Current employees also can sign up to work additional hours, the company said. Wal-Mart employs more than 24,000 people in the state.
Wal-Mart hasn't yet announced when the Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales will begin, but said it has made a commitment to provide shoppers with quality customer service for those shopping in-store and online. Seasonal department manager will be hired to help customers pick up their online orders in the stores.
