Kathy Burns, early childhood educator at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport, was named Teacher of the Year and awarded a lifetime membership from the Mississippi Early Childhood Association. Burns has been an educator of both children and adults for more than 45 years, and she provides training for the Mississippi State Department of Health Licensure Division as well as for day care and preschool teachers.
Jessica Bartels of Gulfport was recognized as a member of the top advocacy volunteer team in the country by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. Bartels and three other members were honored in recognition of their outstanding efforts to support both federal and regional legislative initiatives in the fight against cancer.
Kristie Aylett of Ocean Springs, accredited in public relations and a fellow of the Public Relations Society of America, was named the 2015 president of the Southern Public Relations Federation, a professional association serving Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and north Florida. She is an agency principal in the KARD Group Public Relations/Marketing firm out of Ocean Springs, which was recognized with a top-level Lantern Award for a national media outreach campaign. Aylett earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the Texas Christian University.
Janet Blohowiak was named the area director consultant serving BNI chapters on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and she will be responsible for the coordination of director consultants and ambassadors within BNI. Blohwiak earned her degree in mathematics from the University of New Orleans.

Dr. Mark Borchelt and Dr. Lee Kesterson joined Memorial Physician Clinics. Borchelt will practice endocrinology at 4540 W. Railroad St., Gulfport, and Kesterson will practice neurosurgery at 14213 Cook Road, Biloxi. Borchelt earned his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio University's College of Medicine in Rootstown, and he is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology. Kesterson earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and he is board certified in neurological surgery.
Silver Slipper Casino announced its employees and manager of the month for September. Alfred Gage, table games, and Robin Bond, soft count, were recognized as Employees of the Month. Frank Corso, chef de cuisine for the Blue Bayou restaurant, was recognized as the Manager of the Month. Each honoree received gifts and prizes.
