GULFPORT -- Mugshots Grill & Bar should open in March just north of Interstate 10 on Daniel Boulevard, where new hotels and a Buffalo Wild Wings also are under construction.

Mugshots owner Ron Savell said he plans to open two more of the restaurants and family friendly sports bars, one in Ocean Springs and the other in D'Iberville. The Mugshots in Gulfport should open in March, while the two others he hopes will be in business by July.

Savell, who has four different concept-restaurants in Hattiesburg, said he's also planning a new Biloxi eatery, but he's not ready to reveal the concept for it.

Savell is a University of Southern Mississippi graduate who grew up in the food and beverage business. His parents, he said, owned Sonic Drive-Ins. In college, he worked at Chili's Grill & Bar.

He opened his first Mugshots in Hattiesburg in 2004 and now has 19 locations. He is originally from Natchez, but his parents later lived for years in Bay St. Louis.

"I love the Coast," he said. "People keep talking about, 'the Coast is coming back.' To me, the Coast is back. It's awesome."

His first Coast Mugshots opened in 2010 at Edgewater Village in Biloxi. The Gulfport location will be about the same size, but in more of a traditional restaurant configuration, he said. Construction costs are estimated at $1.5 million.

Savell said the Gulfport location is a winner, drawing traffic from I-10 and U.S. 49, which is east of the two acres where he's building on Daniel Boulevard. Mugshots also will be just south of Sam's Club. The city plans to lengthen Daniel Boulevard from Landon Road through to the I-10 Service Road that links to Canal Road. The Gulfport Sportsplex, where tournaments draw hundreds, and Gulf Islands Waterpark sit between Daniel Boulevard and Canal Road.
