Nissan Primera Returns From The 1990s As A Modern Electric Sedan

The Return of the Primera

I just returned from the bustling floor of the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show. Nissan Philippines dropped a massive surprise during their presentation. They officially unveiled a preview of the upcoming Nissan Primera EV. This sleek new electric vehicle is essentially a rebadged version of the Chinese market Nissan N7 sedan. This specific name change is highly exclusive to the Philippine market. It marks a bold new chapter for a resurrected nameplate that carries heavy nostalgia for seasoned enthusiasts.

Longtime automotive fans will instantly recognize the revived moniker. The original Primera was a beloved 1990s Nissan known for its engaging driving dynamics. It was famously introduced in America as the premium Infiniti G20. Putting the classic Primera badge on a radically different electric car might not hold that much weight for the broader local Philippine market today. American fans of ‘90s cars, though, will definitely notice the historical connection right away.

Sleek Aesthetics and Cloud Cabin Comfort

Walking around the Primera EV in the metal reveals an incredibly slippery and modern design. The exterior features a sleek fastback profile with flush door handles and premium frameless doors. A fresh take on the signature V Motion grille is present at the front. It is flanked by an illuminated badge and a continuous full width LED light strip. The engineers achieved an ultra low drag coefficient of just 0.208 Cd to maximize overall aerodynamic efficiency.

Nissan Philippines has not released official local specifications just yet. We can easily base our educated speculations on the existing Nissan N7 sold in China. The minimalist cabin is dominated by a massive 15.6 inch high resolution central touchscreen. The absolute standout feature is the AI zero pressure cloud seat system which constantly adapts to your driving posture. For the powertrain we expect the Philippine market to receive the larger 73 kWh battery. That setup pairs with a 268 horsepower front motor for an estimated range exceeding 370 miles.

The Drivetrain Testing Ground

This unique launch proves that Nissan is at a critical global crossroads right now. The Japanese automaker is actively trying to rationalize and streamline its extensive worldwide model lineup. Interestingly the Philippine market is serving as a strategic testing ground for this major transition. The local arm is aggressively expanding its portfolio with incredibly diverse electrification technologies. They clearly want to see exactly how consumers respond to different modern powertrain solutions.

Take a close look at the wildly different vehicles Nissan is introducing locally. We have the fully electric Primera EV standing alongside the Nissan X-Trail e-Power series hybrid. That specific crossover is widely known as the Nissan Rogue in America. Joining them are the updated Nissan Kicks ePower and the rugged Nissan Navara Pro PHEV. Nissan is simultaneously offering pure battery electric, series hybrid with the ePower, and plug in hybrid drivetrains to figure out which system will ultimately dominate. This critical sales data will undeniably shape how Nissan scales its future global platforms.
