The owners of the new PJ’s Coffee in Ocean Springs are inviting the community in for a free coffee and pastries to celebrate the grand opening next Friday, Dec. 12.
A ribbon cutting will be at 11 a.m., and the giveaways start well before that for early risers. The shop will provide a free 12-ounce hot or iced coffee from 7-10 a.m. that day and free pastries and beignet bite samples until noon.
The restaurant is already open and those who stop by the restaurant between Dec. 8 and 12 can enter to win free coffee for a year.
The new coffee shop at 1112 Ames Ave. is right off U.S. 90, three blocks east of the intersection with Washington Avenue.
Melissa and Mark Mayne bought the property a year ago and recently began building a coffee shop with French Quarter charm.
About 69,000 vehicles travel that area of Ocean Springs daily, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, and PJ’s menu of food and drinks is designed to entice them to the drive-up window or to come inside.
The menu is a little different that other PJ’s Coffee locations.
“We will be serving beignets,” which is a treat few if any other PJ‘s in Mississippi have on their menus, said Melissa Mayne. The beignets will be ready for breakfast and served all day with PJ‘s café au lait for a true New Orleans pairing.
Also on the menu are a big variety of coffees, seasonal specialties like king cake latte and Southern wedding cake coffee, a selection of energy drinks and caffeine-free beverages .
Blueberry muffins are the favorite, or customers can order croissants, bagels, scones and cinnamon rolls. For something more hearty are grab-and-go egg bites and breakfast and lunch sandwiches.
With the Ocean Springs location opening, the Maynes are looking at opening another PJ’s Coffee in the near future.
