Two new ALDI grocery stores will open in November in South Mississippi.

Thursday, Nov. 6 is the official opening of Ocean Springs’ second ALDI market at 1515 Bienville Blvd. The space formerly was the Winn-Dixie, west of Washington Avenue.

Customers who can’t wait to shop the new Ocean Springs store can go the night before during a sneak peek.

The following Thursday, Nov. 13, is the grand opening of the new ALDI at 11312 U.S. 49 in Gulfport, which also was a former Winn-Dixie store. The sneak peek is a day earlier on Nov. 12.

The new ALDI on North Cleveland Ave. in Long Beach is coming soon, according to the company.

Ribbon cutting events will be about 30 minutes before the stores open at 9 a.m., and shoppers will be allowed inside the store immediately following the ceremonies.

It will pay to be in line early. The first 100 customers for both grand opening events will receive a golden ticket that could be worth up to $100 and a bag of ALDI goodies. No purchase is necessary for these promotions.

Customers also have the chance to win a $500 gift card if they shop Nov. 6-9 in Ocean Springs and Nov. 13-16 in Gulfport. Scan the code inside the store to enter.

Free ALDI shopping totes will be handed out during the grand openings, while supplies last.

The Gulfport Winn-Dixie closed on Nov. 10, 2024, ahead of the Ocean Springs location, but opens a week ahead. The Long Beach Winn-Dixie closed between the other two stores.

Shopping at ALDI is different from other grocery stores on the Coast. Customers insert a quarter into the shopping cart and get a quarter back when they return it to the cart rack. The stores are smaller than most local grocery stores and shoppers save by purchasing primarily private label groceries rather than national name brands. An employee rings up the groceries and the customer puts them in a bag they bring or buy.

The stores also have ALDI Finds in the center aisles that include specialty food, home, gift and holiday items for a limited time. Among the specials during November are advent calendars, holiday sweaters, leather gloves, Christmas decorations and cookie butter cheesecake.

Store hours generally are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

ALDI is opening three new markets in South Mississippi. The Ocean Spring and Gulfport stores will open first, followed by Long Beach.
