People will crowd into Edgewater Mall this weekend for Mississippi’s sales tax holiday, and some of them will be poking around for a clue to the big surprise.
A teaser posted on the mall’s Facebook site says “Something big is blooming at Edgewater Mall.”
It’s unknown how long it will be before the secret is revealed, “But it will be good,” said Terry Powell, mall manager.
What’s coming next joins other new things at the mall on U.S. 90 in Biloxi.
A ribbon cutting on Thursday welcomes Bubbly Babes, a bath and body shop with all natural products made in the shop, Powell said. It’s near Ariana & Co. jewelry store at the mall.
New in the food court is Southern Boys Po-Boy Factory, with sandwiches served on the famed rolls made by Leidenheimer Baking Company in New Orleans for 120 years.
The restaurant has a big list of po-boys such as crispy shrimp, hot sausage, catfish, oysters and roast beef dripping with gravy. Also on the menu are whole and half muffalettas, burgers, spaghetti, salads and a variety of sides including onion rings, cheese fries, sweet potato fries, fried pickles, fried mushrooms and potato salad.
While shoppers check out these new places at the mall, they also can save the 7% sales tax on clothes, shoes and qualifying school supplies.
The savings apply to purchases at stores in Mississippi and online.
The tax-free shopping runs from Friday through Sunday, July 11-13, and gives families a chance to save on back-to-school shopping. The list of qualifying items is here.
It’s not just for kids — stores at the mall have sales to draw shoppers in to stock up on necessities and buy a few luxuries — as long as the cost of an individual pair of shoes, clothing and supplies are under $100 each.
