Methodology

Company rankings are based on the percentage of revenue growth in the last three years.

According to Hagerman, the Inc. 5000 project takes eight months to complete and starts with an application (which included a process fee of $495 in 2024) used to rank companies and confirm their eligibility.

Hagerman said to qualify for the Inc. 5000, a company must:

  • be privately held, for profit, and independent (not a subsidiary or a division of another company)

  • have been founded and generating revenue as of March 31, 2020

  • have generated a minimum of $100,000 in revenue in 2020

  • have generated a minimum of $2 million in revenue in 2023

Companies have to submit proof of their revenues. Inc. then confirms and vets each candidate. The rankings are data driven, but each company has to pass an editorial review that might include research, interviews and an examination of any unlawful activity.

In addition to leading in revenue, Inc. reported companies on the Inc. 5000 list advanced in employment opportunities, “They generated 874,940 jobs, $317 billion in revenue and show where the economy is going.”
