You know those abandoned roller coasters you see entering New Orleans? A change is coming

If you’ve ever driven to New Orleans from the Coast, and seen those abandoned roller coasters on the left side of Interstate 10 as you enter the city, we have news for you. Change is coming.

Axios New Orleans reports that contractors are expected to start demolishing the rides and attractions at the former Six Flags site next month. If all goes well, most of the old structures will be down in five months.

A development company has plans to turn the land into youth sports fields, hotels, shops, a movie studio and a waterpark.

The Times-Picayune reported last year that the city reached an agreement with a development group called Bayou Phoenix. The Six Flags site was flooded during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and never reopened. It has been somewhat of an eyesore ever since, though it has turned into a popular place for filmmakers.

Bayou Phoenix hopes to have construction on its project finished in 2027, Axios reported. A name is pending.
