Coroner identifies man who was killed in shooting by Gulfport police officer

The name of the person shot and killed by a Gulfport police officer Saturday night during a fight has been released

Kendrall Tate, 27, of Gulfport had multiple gunshot wounds, said Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer. He was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, where he was taken after the shooting.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation reported in a press release that officers were called to William Bell Apartments on Reed Avenue, near the Seabee base, with a report of a stabbing. A fight broke out at the scene between the officer and Tate, who was shot multiple times.

An autopsy will be performed Tuesday, Switzer said.

The officer had no serious physical injuries.

MBI will share its findings with the attorney general’s office when the investigation is complete.
