Ten years later, Biloxi’s White House Hotel needs more room. Check out the new design

The restoration of the historic White House Hotel on the beach in Biloxi began 10 years ago and the now trendy hotel is ready for its next big evolution.

A year ago the plan was to build an events center and more guest rooms immediately across White Avenue, west of the White House Hotel.

Plans presented Wednesday to the Biloxi Development Review Committee show a new design and location. A 11,600-square-foot, three-story addition to the hotel will be built on what is now a parking lot north of the hotel.

What hasn’t changed is the dramatic exterior, designed by Biloxi architect Frank Genzer.

The bright white addition features columns and balconies overlooking the beach and sunsets. The new wing has the same look as the front of the White House Hotel, said Jerry Creel, Biloxi’s community development director.

An addition to the White House Hotel will tie in to the exterior of the historic hotel on Beach Boulevard. The three-story addition is designed with balconies overlooking the beach and the water.

The original White House has 76 guest rooms. The three-story building will add 55, which Genzer said will share the hotel lobby and other amenities. The White House has an outdoor swimming pool, Cora’s restaurant, a rooftop terrace with cocktail lounge and a ballroom.

Work is expected to begin soon, said Greg Stewart with Lodging & Leisure Investments in Biloxi.

An events center and wedding venue is still planned on the original site, he told the DRC, but on a smaller footprint to preserve the oak trees.

For now, the site across White Avenue will be used for employee and overflow parking when needed. The White House already is popular for events and special occasions and last weekend had a wedding, a fully-booked hotel and couples coming for dinner before homecoming.
