Wages in Mississippi were an average of 8.7% higher in September 2022 than they were for the same period a year earlier, the latest numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show.

The increase lifted the average wage in the state to $933 a week. Even so, Mississippi has long had the lowest median household income in the nation. Median income in the state was estimated at $46,637 in 2021, U.S. Census records show.
