Three new restaurants open at the Gulfport-Biloxi airport, including Sonic
The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport (GPT) partnered with Faber to debut three new restaurants on Wednesday just in time for the summer travel season.
New to the airport is a Sonic, Coffee Connection and the Chandeleur Island Brewing Company exclusive to ticketed passengers.
The move comes in an effort to provide a local touch for passengers arriving, leaving or passing through South Mississippi.
“We wanted to ensure that we have something that offers a little bit of local flavor of the Gulf Coast,” GPT executive director Clay Williams said at the opening. “You can go to an airport and it can feel like Anywhere, U.S.A but we wanted this to be a little bit different.”
The Coffee Connection shop replaces Coast Roast, but will still continue serving Coast Roast coffee, as well as offer the pastries and bakery items found at Coast Roast locations.
The Chandeleur Island Brewing Company, which owns the public bar within the terminal, has a brand new bar replacing the Gulf Coast Grill and Tap Room with a kitchen serving a limited menu that features various tastes of local cuisine.
The menu includes jalepeno hush puppies with remoulade, three different po-boys and red beans and rice.
The process took a quick four months and comes before the airport adds a pair of flights, including a third from United Airlines to Houston and a seasonal service from Sun Country out of Minneapolis.
Further upgrades coming include a $1.9 million upgrade to the airfield’s lighting, paid for by a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.
American, Delta, Sun Country Airlines, Allegiant and United fly out of GPT.
