How much do eggs cost in Mississippi, and is the price dropping? Here’s the data.

Egg prices are dropping in most parts of the United States, including in Mississippi.

A report released Monday by the USDA office in Atlanta says prices are down 45-46 cents per dozen for large eggs and 6.5-20 cents lower for medium eggs in the Southeast region of the United States.

The report represents pricing for the states of Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, eastern Tennessee and western Virginia.

Egg prices began skyrocketing in 2022, mostly due to bird flu.

The cost of a dozen eggs jumped by nearly 50% in a year, according to data from the Consumer Price Index.

So, how much do eggs cost in South Mississippi right now? Here’s a look at prices on Feb. 13, 2023:

  • At Walmart in Waveland (and other stores in the Gulfport-Biloxi metro), one dozen large eggs costs $3.30, or about 27.5 cents each.
