We’ve had MS lottery for 3 years. Here’s a look at the major jackpots won on the Coast.

One lucky ticket matched all five numbers in Thursday’s Mississippi Match 5 drawing to take a jackpot of $358,000, the Mississippi Lottery Corp. announced Friday.

The winning numbers drawn were 7-20-26-27-35, and the winning ticket was purchased at Pomp and Bees on U.S. 11 South in Poplarville.

The big win comes as Poplarville celebrates Chapel Hart week in honor of the band from Poplarville who finished in the top five on America’s Got Talent.

Thursday’s winner joins more than two dozen other Coast lottery players who have hit it big with jackpots of $100,000 or more since the lottery began in Mississippi in late 2019. Those jackpots came on scratch-off games or the state and national national draw games like Powerball and Mega Millions.

Mississippi Lottery began listing on its website every win of $600 or more. That threshold soon was soon bumped up to $800 or more, and the list between November 2019 and September 2002 is thousands of winners long.

The winners generally are identified by the city or town where they live, although in some cases the lottery has provided a first name and last initial for the big winners.

The vast majority of the jackpots were won by Mississippi residents who played close to their homes. Alabama residents, who cross the state line to buy lottery tickets — as Mississippi residents did until 2019 — also have been lucky. Some of them bought their winning lottery tickets while at Coast casinos.

The biggest jackpot in South Mississippi remains the $2 million a Gautier woman won in June 2020 in the Mega Millions drawing.

“When we heard the Mississippi Lottery was coming to Mississippi, I said I’d be the first to win,” said the winner, who chose to remain anonymous. She told the lottery commission she chose her own numbers, “and I always play Megaplier.” For an extra $1, her winning ticket was doubled to $2 million with the multiplier.

She purchased the winning ticket at Jerry Lee’s Grocery in Gautier. The store now is Ramey’s Marketplace, which also has sold jackpot tickets at its other locations.

The newest jackpot in South Mississippi is for $358,000 and was sold in Poplarviulle.

The ceremonial $2 million winning check was presented by Mississippi Lottery Corporation to the Gautier woman who won Mississippi’s first million dollar lottery jackpot in 2020. It’s still the largest jackpot in South Mississippi.
