Gas prices across the country fall for the tenth week in a row, but one expert says the trend will not continue in southern states for much longer.
“The pace of declines is certainly slowing down as oil prices have bounced up slightly, but the West Coast and Northeastern U.S. are areas that still may see gas prices decline, while the South and Midwest see the drop fade and potentially slight increases,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
“Thus far, Mother Nature has spared us from disruptions from hurricanes, but that remains a wildcard as we head into the peak of hurricane season.”
Gas prices in Mississippi are some of the lowest in the country, coming in second only to Arkansas. As of Monday, the average for a gallon of gas in Mississippi was $3.42, nearly 50 cents less than the national average of $3.90, according to data from AAA.

While gas prices in Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties are usually significantly less than the rest of the state, the county with the cheapest gas prices is Panola, where the average price is $3.17 per gallon.
Along the Coast, the current average is $3.31 per gallon, which is 13 cents less than it was this time last week and 60 cents less than last month.
