New city manager hired to run D’Iberville’s daily operations as development thrives
A new city manager will oversee the continued development and expansion of retail and entertainment in D’Iberville.
Bobby Weaver was introduced at Tuesday’s city council meeting to succeed Clay Jones, who was city manager for six years before leaving to work at Machado Patano engineering firm in Biloxi.
Weaver officially starts his new job Sept. 1, but said he already is involved in meetings as he transitions from his job at Seymour Engineering.
Under the council-manager form of government in D’Iberville, the mayor and council hire a city manager. The mayor presides over council meetings, the council makes policy and the city manager handles day-to-day operations.
“I’m excited for this opportunity,” said Weaver, who just turned 60. He was born in Pennsylvania, moved to Biloxi two months later and after traveling with his military family, ended up in D’Iberville in 1968.
“Been a resident of this community since,” he said.
Throughout his career Weaver worked with D’Iberville. He worked on roads and bridges as an employee of Harrison County before becoming the director of the county’s Sand Beach Authority. He’s worked for Seymour Engineer for 11 years and was a project manager of several projects in D’Iberville.
His stepfather, Bobby Eleuterius, served as city manager for several years.
The city is thriving, Weaver said, as it continues to attract retail and with the June announcement that a Sports Illustrated theme resort will be built in D’Iberville. The city also has area for more casino development, he said, and he hopes to compile an infrastructure and development plan to accommodate the growth.
