Harrison County collision ‘without warning’ leads to lawsuit against trucking company
Three Louisiana residents are suing a trucking company and their driver for injuries sustained during a collision in Harrison County.
The residents claim they were driving on Interstate 10 in March when the front on their vehicle was “suddenly and without warning” hit by the trailer of a truck owned by Melton Truck Lines, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In a federal lawsuit filed last month, the Louisiana residents claim the company’s driver, Jerquez Hughey of Nashville, swerved into their lane, was speeding and inattentive, and failed to keep a proper lookout for other traffic.
Alex Demouchet, Helen Sonnier and Shaqur Stevenson, all from Lafayette Parish in Louisiana, claim cervical and lumbar spine injuries from the accident. Sonnier also claims a shoulder injury. All three say the injuries will affect their future earnings.
The lawsuit seeks an unspecified damages, though Demouchet asks for $5,862 for repairs to his 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck. Melton has yet to file an initial response to the suit.
A lawsuit represents only one side of a legal argument.
