Katrina was no match for beachfront Coast home built in 1899. It can be yours for $1.8M.
A rare historic home more than 120 years old is on the market in Bay St. Louis, and the prime piece of waterfront real estate is attracting attention from out-of-towners looking to the move to the Mississippi Coast.
The house at 606 N. Beach Boulevard was built in 1899 and has sweeping views of the Bay of St. Louis, high ceilings, a custom kitchen and a large front porch.
The asking price for the listing for $1.8 million.
It is rare for a house of this age to go up for sale anywhere, especially in Bay St. Louis where Hurricane Katrina wiped out so many of the older homes, said listing agent Regan Kane of John McDonald Realty.
Kane says the house is on a raised foundation so it escaped Katrina with only minor wind damage. It is also is in a X flood zone.
“The main living area is on the second floor, so it didn’t have any flood damage,” Kane said. “The home has a lot of the original features ... tile and beautiful heart-pine floors.”
Sitting on 1.4 acres, the nearly 4,000 square foot home has been on the market for 40 days, and the asking price was recently reduced by $150,000.
“At this price point you have to find the right buyer, but we have had a lot of interest from out-of-town lookers who appreciate the historic quality of the house,” Kane said.
The home is also in a desirable location near downtown and across from a pedestrian friendly beach, Kane says.
