Mississippi Aquarium employee was fired for reporting sexual misconduct, lawsuit says

The Mississippi Aquarium is being sued by a former employee who claims wrongful termination.

Specifically, the employee, Kegan Wood, claims he was fired for reporting sexual misconduct.

In a lawsuit filed late last year, Wood claims he reported to his supervisor that a female employee groped a male employee. According to the complaint, the supervisor at the time was romantically interested in the female employee.

Following the reporting, Wood said in the suit he was sent home and terminated within a few weeks.

The complaint argues Wood is entitled to “actual damages” for mental anxiety, stress and lost income.

The complaint does not seek specific cash compensation. Rather it asks for a jury trial where punitive damages will be determined.

When reached for comment, Timothy Lindsay, an attorney for the aquarium, said it does not comment on pending litigation.

Daniel Waide, an attorney for Wood, said that he feels they have a strong case.

“I don’t file something unless I think it’s going to pan out,” he said. “Otherwise it’s a waste of everybody’s time.”

A lawsuit represents only one version of events.
