Alabama couple wins $500K jackpot from scratch-off sold at MS Coast hot dog stand

This is not an April Fool’s Day joke.

A couple from Mobile collected a $500,000 prize Friday on a winning scratch-off lottery ticket purchased on the Mississippi Coast.

The couple purchased the $20 ticket on Thursday from The Oaks of Moss Point on Old Stage Road. The gas station is also a hot dog joint famous for its frank with chili, according to their Facebook page.

“They scratched the ticket and kept seeing zeros, then a comma,” the Mississippi Lottery Corporation said in a press release. “That’s when the realized the had a big win on their hands.”

The Alabama couple won the highest prize possible on the ticket, which is a Bonus Multiplier game that launched in Oct. 2021.

It was a notable week for lottery winnings across Mississippi. Nearly $100,000 in other winning tickets were awarded, Mississippi Lottery said.

In January, a Harrison County woman claimed $1 million in winnings from a Mega Millions ticket.
