Buc-ee’s is known for cheap gas. What to expect on the Coast when new store opens

A Buc-ee’s in Alabama was sued for setting illegal gas prices in 2019. While the state’s gas prices were around $2 a gallon, Buc-ee’s was selling gas at $1.80, allegedly violating the Alabama Motor Fuel Marketing Act.

This made us curious about the Buc-ee’s that is slated to be built on the Coast. Will gas be cheaper at the Buc-ee’s in Pass Christian?

According to AAA, $3.92 is the current average price for gas in Mississippi. On the Coast, gas is $3.93 in Hancock County, $3.91 in Harrison County and $3.92 in Jackson County.

Using the GasBuddy app, it looks like the cheapest places on the Coast to get gas are:

  • Murphy Express at 1824 Popp’s Ferry Road, $3.86

  • Shell at 970 Cedar Lake Road, $3.87

  • Exxon & Circle K at 1000 Cedar Lake Road, $3.87

  • Shell at 1833 W. Beach Blvd., $3.88

  • Circle K at 2194 Beach Blvd., $3.88

Currently, the closest Buc-ee’s to the coast is in Robertsdale, Ala., where the gas is $3.99. The Buc-ee’s in Warner Robins, Ga. is currently $3.53 at that location. However, it doesn’t look as if Buc-ee’s has the cheapest gas in these areas.

While the Robertsdale location is $3.99, other gas stations in the area have gas for $3.97 (CEFCO) and $3.98 (Circle K).

The same applies for the Buc-ee’s in Georgia. A few Circle K stations in the area are selling gas at $3.45 and $3.49 a gallon.

While Buc-ee’s was once setting unfair gas prices, it looks as if the current hike in prices at the pump leaves Buc-ee’s as a great location to get gas, but not the cheapest.

The Buc-ee’s coming to the Coast may be a top competitor for other stations on I-10, where gas prices have been significantly high lately.

Besides fuel, Buc-ee’s has much more to offer people on the coast.

“It’s a big deal because it will bring millions in revenue to the state and provide hundreds of jobs to local residents. It’s not just a convenience store or a gas station. It’s more like an experience,” said Emily McDougall of Mississippi South Realty.
