Filling up? Here’s where to find cheap gas along the Coast
The average price of a gallon of gas in Mississippi is once again at $3.99, according to the AAA average gas price index. This time, it could mark a turn for the better. The state set a new record Friday when the average price for a gallon of fuel reached $4.01.
Experts say the price may level off or possibly dip a little lower in the coming days. One thing it won’t do is plummet as low as last month’s $3.15 anytime soon.
“If today’s decline in oil holds- most states will likely see a weekly decline at the gas pump in the week ahead,” tweeted Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, Monday morning.
Mississippi has long had the lowest gas prices in the U.S., but that’s changed in the recent spike.
De Haan told the Sun Herald he expects prices in the Magnolia State to level off and soon return to having the cheapest fuel in the nation, but he could not say when that would happen.
A few local stations have already started lowering prices. Gasbuddy, which relies on user-reported data, listed a few options for a cheaper fill-up.
