Here’s why the Biloxi Chick-fil-A and Edgewater Mall food court closed for a week

The food court at Edgewater Mall can reopen after a broken pipe was repaired Wednesday.

Mall manager Terry Powell said Wednesday that a 4 inch water main broke under the original part of the mall that was built in 1963.

That shut down the food court for a week.

“Unfortunately we are still experiencing some maintenance issues that are preventing us from opening,” Chik fil-A posted on March 3. ‘We will update again when we resume serving.”

The water main break didn’t affect Premiere Lux movie theater, where popular “Batman” and “Hotel Transylvania” movies are playing. That new construction opened in late 2018 and isn’t on the same water line, Powell said.

Some of the restroom facilities at the mall also closed temporarily while crews worked to find the break in the line under the mall.

The outage affected only the area built in 1963, he said, and not where the mall was remodeled and expanded in 1972 and 1997.
