With flights being canceled across US, here’s how Gulfport-Biloxi airport is faring
Airlines have canceled more than 15,000 U.S. flights since Christmas Eve because of weather conditions and omicron COVID-19 infections among the pilots and crews.
Passengers at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport were among those who had to make alternate plans, although impacts were limited, said Chaille Munn, director of marketing.
“There were four arrivals and four departures impacted over the New Year’s holiday due to winter storms in other parts of the U.S. and some crew availability issues,” she said.
Those didn’t include flights to and from Atlanta, which she said are the most traveled routes at the airport.
The last Delta flight from Atlanta on Monday — due in at 11:09 p.m. — was canceled.
Most flights are arriving and departing on time, but flights occasionally were delayed for various reasons, she said. That’s typical during heavy travel times and when snow is falling in other parts of the country.
Passengers or those who are picking up or dropping off family and friends for their flights, can monitor delays at the arrival and departures on the airport website.
The Federal Aviation Administration said an increased number of its employees have tested positive for COVID-19, which could cause some delays in getting through security during busy periods.
Munn recommends arriving up to two hours before a scheduled flight at GPT.
United Airlines is posting delays and cancellations on its website with the warning: “Due to fast-changing government mandates and restrictions, this information is subject to change anytime and without notice.”
