Most Coast stores will be closed on Thanksgiving and open early on Black Friday
Given the challenges of the past year, retailers are preparing for strong Black Friday sales this year on the Coast and across the nation.
The National Retail Federation expects nearly 2 million more shoppers from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday than in the pandemic year of 2020.
“We’re expecting another record-breaking holiday season this year, and Thanksgiving weekend will play a major role as it always has,” said NRF CEO Matthew Shay.
”Fully two-thirds (66%) of holiday shoppers surveyed in early November plan to shop Thanksgiving weekend this year,” he said.
The survey found 30.6 million plan to shop either in-store or online on Thanksgiving Day, 108 million on Black Friday, 58.1 million on Small Business Saturday, 31.2 million on Sunday and 62.8 million on Cyber Monday.
Dozens of sales fliers from the large department stores and some of the local stores will be stuffed inside the paper on Thanksgiving Day to help people make their lists and plan their shopping route for early Friday morning.
Most stores will be closed Thanksgiving Day so employees can spend time with their families and prepare for an early start.
Old Navy opens at midnight, as Thanksgiving gives way to Black Friday, and other major stores start opening at 5 a.m. Friday.
