Singing River makes deal to buy Garden Park, move into Memorial Hospital territory

Jackson-County based Singing River Health System plans to buy Garden Park Medical Center in Gulfport from HCA Healthcare, SRHS says in a news release.

The purchase should be finalized later in the summer if approvals are secured and closing conditions met.

SRHS and Garden Park have worked together through SRHS’s cardivascular program and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Garden Park is an outstanding facility, and we are excited for their strong team to join the Singing River family,” SRHS CEO Lee Bond said in the news release. “This is a natural next step for us because we have already worked together on quality initiatives, we have like-minded service cultures and both share an unwavering commitment to excellence in all that we do.

“This accord will help us maintain current and future financial stability, and at the same time support the virtuous mission to improve health and save lives.

SRHS hospitals, Singing River in Pascagoula and Ocean Springs Hospital, along with Garden Park, were recently recognized for outstanding quality and patient safety by the national Leapfrog Ratings Group. All three hospitals also have “A” patient safety ratings.

“Earlier this year, we celebrated 45 years of Garden Park caring for our Gulf Coast community,” medical center CEO Randy Rogers said in the news release. “I’m confident that joining Singing River is an important opportunity to build on this legacy and help us continue to provide the excellent care we are known for in the next 45 years and beyond.

“We are truly better together, and I’m excited about what the future holds for the families and communities we are privileged to serve.”

Operations at SRHS hospitals and at Garden Park will remain the same while the sale is pending.

With the purchase of Garden Park, SRHS would be for the first time competing with the Coast’s largest publicly owned hospital, publicly owned Memorial Hospital at Gulfport.
