Mississippi Coast restaurants had the fewest C grades ever in 2019. Here are the latest ones.
Coast restaurants had the fewest failing grades in 2019 since the Mississippi State Department of Health began reporting reporting by grades in 2007.
The number of C’s dropped below 100 for the first time.
Only two Coast restaurants have been cited for health violations in the first three weeks of 2020.
Soc Trang Asian Restaurant, 10090 Central Ave A, D’Iberville, was given a C after being inspected Wednesday for a permit renewal. The inspector found eight violations, with two of those corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant was cited for: not having a certified manager; inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible; food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized; improper date marking and disposition; not having plumbing installed with proper backflow devices, and not having the last inspection report posted.
Corrected during the inspection were food separated and protected, and not having toilet facilities properly constructed, supplied and cleaned.
This is the first C since the restaurant opened in 2018.
On Jan. 8, Hardees at 24 Cowart St., Lucedale, was given a C following a scheduled inspection. The restaurant was not in compliance for proper cold-holding temperatures, a repeat offense, and sewage waste water properly disposed.
Corrected during inspection was food separated and protected.
In a follow-up inspection on Jan. 16, the restaurant was given a B after the violations for cold-holding temperatures and proper disposal of sewage water were corrected during the inspection.
This is the only C for the fast food restaurant dating back to 2009.
Restaurants and other food service establishments are rated A if they pass the Health Department inspection, B if violations are corrected during the inspection, and C if the violations are critical.
So far this year, 197 restaurants across the District IX in South Mississippi were given As for having no violations. Another 19 received Bs when violations were found and corrected during the inspection and there were 2 Cs.
The number of C’s statewide steadily decreased from 997 in 2013 to 348 in 2018. The total increased slightly in 2019 to 382.
