Heavy fog makes travel in and out of Gulfport Airport impossible

Getting to family for Christmas is proving to be a challenge this week, with fog diverting or canceling flights Tuesday into and out of the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.

Five flights into Gulfport were canceled Tuesday, four flights by American Airlines and one by United Airlines.

An American Airlines flight from Charlotte to Gulfport was diverted to New Orleans and two United flights were diverted to Jackson on Tuesday.

Things weren’t much better for passengers flying out of Gulfport. Three flights to Charlotte, Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth were canceled.

Early flights to Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte and Atlanta on Wednesday are canceled, so passengers should check with their airlines.

These weather issues come after a power outage at the airport in Atlanta canceled more than 1,000 flights on Sunday and disrupted air traffic nationwide.
