On what is one of the biggest tourist weekends of the year, Coast casinos and hotels will stay open at least until the track and strength of Tropical Storm Nate solidifies.
“We’re monitoring it,” Allen Godfrey, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission said Thursday afternoon following a conference call with the National Weather Service.
“It’s a long way out,” he said. At 2 p.m. Thursday the storm was in Honduras in Central America, with another possible landfall in Mexico before Nate enters the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday.
The forecast as of Thursday afternoon is for landfall to be somewhere in Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama early Sunday and for Nate to move quickly.
