Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United announced Monday it has closed on the purchase of the Ocean Springs and nine other sales and distribution territories throughout the southeast and a production facility in Mobile.
In addition to Ocean Springs, United announced it acquired territories in Florence, Mobile, Robertsdale and Leroy in Alabama; Bainbridge, Sylvester and Columbus in Georgia; Laurel in Mississippi and Panama City in Florida.
More than 920 staff members joined the company as part of Monday’s acquisitions and 100 new employees were added. The Ocean Springs location has 81 employees and 1,930 customers on 20 distribution routes, selling 2.5 million cases a year.
The company was founded 115 years ago in 1902 and is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. It began a major expansion in 2014 and by the end of this year will have about 10,000 employees in 52 sales territories and nine production facilities across seven states.
United, the largest privately held Coca-Cola bottler in North America and third largest in the U.S., said it plans to invest more than $9 million in infrastructure, facility improvements and fleet throughout these new territories.
