Coast unemployment increases while school’s out for summer
Students entering the workforce for summer historically increases the unemployment rate in the three Coast counties, and June’s rates reflect that across South Mississippi.
The unemployment increased in all three counties yet remains below the 2016 levels.
Mississippi Department of Employment Security says the largest monthly employment losses in June were in the Government sector and Educational & Health Services.
Rankin County had the lowest unemployment in June at 4.3 percent and Jefferson County the highest at 16.7 percent.
