Fresh out of the Twitter oven! Haydel’s Bakery in New Orleans announced Friday morning that they will launch a line of hand pies next weekend.

A couple of tweets teased followers with photos of hand pies and packaging. The pies are reminiscent of Hubig’s pies, which have been off the market since the bakery burned down in July 2012.

Hubig’s officials have said since the fire that they would rebuild and re-open, but four years later, devotees are still salivating for a bite of sweet, crusty goodness that comes in a hand pie.

The hold-up, according to multiple sources, is a dispute among co-owners on how best to proceed and reopen.

Hubig’s pies, with Savory Simon featured on the package, included flavors such as apple, lemon, chocolate, sweet potato, peach and other seasonal flavors.

According to Haydel’s Facebook account, the bakery is bringing back the pies that were featured in the original 1960s menu, picturing hand pies in lemon and apple. After starting with those two flavors, chocolate and cherry will follow.
