Now that Silver Slipper Casino has a hotel, it is ready to host the World Meat Pie Eating Championship on March 5.

This Major League Eating event will bring nationally ranked competitors the Hancock County resort to compete for a share of the $5,000 prize money.

Competitors will be downing 6-ounce meat pies made by the Natchitoches Meat Pie Company.

"This event gives us an opportunity to showcase the Silver Slipper Casino Hotel to visitors from around the country," said John Ferrucci, casino general manager.

The free event will be held beachside with live music by Rockin' Dopsie Jr & The Zydeco Twisters. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

The eating competition begins at 2 p.m. and will be a tribute to the late Boyd Bulot, a Chalmette, La., resident, friend of Silver Slipper and reigning World Meat Pie record holder.

His world record of eating 16 pies in 10 minutes is on the line, and his family will be there to witness the contest and possibly crown the new record holder.
