Crab on the go? Mandeville man serving seafood boils on wheels across South MS
He may be Louisiana-born, but Givin Wright knows how to keep the Coast’s seafood cravings satisfied — one boil at a time.
Opened in 2012 as a traveling live seafood truck, The Crab Man Plus now serves seafood boils everywhere from Texas to Alabama. Its small menu boasts big flavors, with offerings such as snow crab, crawfish, shrimp, lobster and Dungeness crab clusters.
Classic sides including corn, sausage and boiled eggs spice up the plates, but Wright said his lineup of house-made sauce and seasonings is what sets his business apart. His snow crab vendors shift per season, but customers can expect crawfish from south-central Louisiana, shrimp from Houma and blue crab caught by his father in Lake Pontchartrain.
Since taking over the family-owned business in 2020, Wright said he’s enjoyed watching it take off.
“It’s definitely awesome to see what I’ve built because I can set up anywhere. We don’t even do events anymore, because people are coming to us,” he said.
Wright said he’s built a loyal customer base on the Coast, where he makes a stop at least once a month.
“People think that just because you’re a food truck doesn’t mean you can provide great, outstanding food. The second people come and try us, their whole persona changes about food trucks,” he said.
Despite climbing sales, Wright plans on keeping his business simple. He said he isn’t interested in opening a restaurant or making major changes to his menu.
“I am strictly sticking to my menu,” he said. “We like to keep it straightforward.”
