Tacos and soft serve margaritas. Get to know this South MS restaurant

You don’t go to Wiggins enough.

I don’t hit the Big Wig nearly as often as I should, either.

So few are my trips that I’m always struck by the quaint and scenic beauty of narrow East Pine Avenue when I cross the tracks that bisect the Stone County jewel.

Sitting at the top of the brick-paved road is the aptly named Hilltop Daiquiris and Tacos.

It’s a turquoise and maize building with a driveway-turned-outdoor seating area and a vibrant interior that places you inside a beachside hut decorated with straw awnings and painted scenes of the waterside and surf.

The restaurant first opened its doors in December and has since been a well-reviewed establishment on both Facebook and Google.

Hilltop specializes in made-to-order tacos and alcohol consumed through a variety of methods. One of those is the unique soft serve margarita.

The trend is popping up around the Mississippi Coast at different Mexican and Southwestern-style restaurants. It’s simply a margarita, but made with a soft serve machine.

The result is a swirl of velvet tequila that can be flavored in any way a regular margarita can be.

So being the investigative journalists we are, we tried one to verify the scrumptiousness. It was most scrumptious. Light, airy and when it melts it just becomes a regular margarita you can drink as usual.

Hilltop offers daiquiris, traditional margs and mixed drinks, as well.

The meat of the menu are the tacos. There are a handful of preset vibes like the Asian taco with Thai chili slaw and spicy aioli and the birria dipping tacos.

Most of these are prepared in your choice of shell and protein. Take it from us, pairing pork with the Korean taco’s sweet chili gochujang, barbecue glaze, slaw and veggies is a good place to start.

Hilltop runs deals on a regular basis. Tuesdays are for tacos where you can get two and a side of rice for $10. Wednesday comes with an extended happy hour and a free side of street corn with a taco meal.

Thursdays feature various happy hour deals. All of these are available and updated on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
