They have banana pudding cupcakes, tiramisu cupcakes when requested and cookie butter ones that are an employee favorite.

But the best-seller at Dolce Bakeshop & Cafe, 112 W. Third St., is the Strawberry Shortcake, described as “light and refreshing, with whipped cream on top instead of buttercream, and a strawberry filling in the middle.”

The shop, touted on its Facebook page as “Italy meets the Gulf Coast with a perfect blend of classic Italian desserts and Southern pastries,” serves the best cupcakes in Mississippi, according to a new list from Yelp.

The methodology, Yelp says: “We identified businesses in the cupcakes category, then ranked those businesses using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews.”

The adorable shop belongs to Brooke and Bill Rester, who moved out of the upstairs (above the business) to make room for an event space for classes and parties.

The shop sells more than cupcakes, but the owners were pleased with the cupcake designation.

“I’m going to get a banner put up for the front yard,” Brooke said. “We’re super excited.”

In a previous Sun Herald story, Brooke said she had dreamed of having a cupcake and bakeshop for more than 10 years.

Dolce, of course, is the Italian word for sweet.

The bakery is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.
