The robots will serve you now at Hard Rock

Fully automated drinks are now a reality at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi.

Robo Bar, just off the main lobby, has its big opening Thursday afternoon, and patrons got to watch the two hot pink robotic arms pour, mix and shake libations ordered on tablets at stations scattered around the bar’s lounge area.

The tablets have easy-to-use menus that include classic drinks and signature drinks, or you can create your own. Robo Bar also offers several nonalcoholic options. Once an order is entered, the customer watches one of four 92-inch LED screens. First, the order appears in the “Drinks In Queue” display, which lists each order and the approximate wait time. At the top of this display are the drinks in production. Once a drink is completed, that order is listed on the next screen. The customer approaches the counter, and the drink is delivered. Ambassadors are on hand to answer questions or help with any problems, and hosts are available to take drinks to tables and seats in the lounge area if you so desire.

Robo Bar will be open 2 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

What if I have cash? If you brought cash, no problem. One of the ambassadors can take care of that for you. Same for comp players. If you have a credit card, there’s a swiper on the tablet.

What about tipping? Tipping isn’t necessary for the robots, but if you ask one of the hosts to bring your drinks, do tip them.

Can I order drinks in different sizes? Drinks are in one size.

Do I have to order off the menu? You can, or you can customize your drink. The menu offers classic as well as signature drinks with fun names such as Beam Me Up Scotty, The Final Countdown, Hippie in Space, Shake It Don’t Break It, Space Brothers and Little Rocket Man. Each signature drink offers an ingredient list on the tablet.

So I can create my own drink. How many liquors is the max? There are 12 steps to each drink. The Beam Me Up Scotty, for example, has six parts ice, two parts Bourbon, one part Amaretto and three parts pineapple juice, plus one part lime sour and one lime slice. You can modify drinks, too.

I like to ask my bartender for suggestions. Can I do that here? Of course, the robot arms can’t hold a conversation, but if you’re feeling fruity, you can look up drinks with fruit juices. If gin is your go-to alcohol, see what’s available.
