South Mississippi women will compete for Distinguished Young Woman title

Distinguished Young Women local winners will be traveling to Meridian on July10 to compete for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of Mississippi.

South Mississippi’s contestants are DYW of East Jackson County, Hollis Hoggard; DYW of Pascagoula, Elizabeth Burrow; DYW of West Jackson, Cailin Sims; and DYW of Greene County Charlsie Hicks.

The competition will be at the Temple Theatre in Meridian, July 14-16.

Distinguished Young Women of Mississippi is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarships, leadership and talent in young women.

College scholarships are awarded at the state level ($35,000 last year) and millions in college-granted scholarships are available ($1.1 billion nationally). And one representative will advance to the national program in Mobile where they give away $150,000 in cash tuition scholarships.
