Vanda McCormick, a retired Biloxi School District art teacher, will give art-lovers a closeup view of nature with her "Nature's Beauty" show at Biloxi's Gallery 782 this month.

"Nature's Beauty," the artwork of Vanda McCormick of Gulfport, will be on exhibit from Monday to May 31, at Gallery 782 Co-Art Gallery, 782 Water St., behind Mary Mahoney's, Biloxi.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, in conjunction with the Biloxi Main Street First Friday events held on that night.

McCormick has received several art awards and purchase awards throughout the years for her work, and her works hang in homes and businesses throughout the United States, have been accepted into museum exhibitions and received awards at those events as well as exhibitions and shows.

She said her work has been inspired by the colorful works of the post-Impressionist and Fauvist periods of art.

Henri Matisse has been a great inspiration for the windows and pottery that appear in many of the works in her current show at Gallery 782.

She said she is attracted to textural ways to enhance and show tactile feeling in her works and she also has been inspired to paint nature and the surrounding beauty.

There is no admission charge for Friday's opening reception, and the Gallery will offer refreshments.
